Weingut Schloss Proschwitz is to this day the oldest privately-owned winery of Saxony, founded in 1990 by Prof. Dr. Georg Prinz zur Lippe. They are cultivating four vineyards which used to belong to local ecclesiasts, making they a part of a long local winemaking tradition. They are blessed with 80 hectares of a unique terroir, with a 6 meter deep layer of loess and loam atop granite and syenit cliffs.
their winemaker Jacques du Preez uses gentle pressing of the grapes as well as cool and long fermentations so their wines can develop authentic personalities reflecting the character of the grape variety, terroir and winery. In 1996, Weingut Schloss Proschwitz became the first VDP (Verband Deutscher Prädikatsweingüter e.V.) member of Saxony.
